420. You Yangs - Flinders Peak
U3A Hike 420
This hike was absolutely spectacular!
From the moment we left the cars we were blown away with the amazing views, both nearby and in the far distance. The canola crops were vivid yellow, and there was a wide variety of flowering trees and shrubs. We had views across to Corio Bay and the Geelong freeway along with the surrounding farmlands in between. The weather was perfect!
Gordon, our leader, was blessed with the company of seven very happy, chatty ladies whom he treated with humour and respect.
Our hike started on the Flinders Peak walking trail and concluded with the ascent to the Flinders Peak Trail. We had wonderful views all the way including the Bunjil which was constructed in 2006 from huge boulders placed in the shape of a wedge tailed eagle. It is a very impressive site from the trails above. We were later to have one of our rest stops there.
Thanks to Gordon for planning and leading a very memorable hike and thanks to Jan for acting as whip.
