456. Two Lakes - Daylesford 8.6km
U3A Hike No 456
Hike Report By Kim Radenic
Kirks carpark was awash with 15 eager little vegemites all doing our customary car pooling.
After a 40min drive to Jubilee Lake carpark, we were greeted on arrival by peacocks and the sound of chirping, cawing, and laughing birds.
It was a beautiful mild morning, and Gordon gave us an overview of the days walk.
A short walk along the track we came across an old trestle railway bridge part of the former railway which used to run from Daylesford to Creswick. (A song by the Seekers immediately came into my head, Morningtown ride, silly me.)
At Central Springs reserve we had a 5 minute break.
It had rained overnight in Daylesford hence the trails were very soft underfoot and nice on the soles of the feet.
We went up, we went down, we went flat. Halfway around Lake Daylesford we had morning tea with ducks and other birds and a nice view. ( I still had that song in my head).
Andrew brought up a point that U3A insists that we all carry and display our name tags with our emergency details. Andrew has suggested that he will purchase a small metal waterproof canister with clip to protect our name tags with emergency details in it.
More info to come.
At the lookout we had a nice view of the lake Daylesford and surrounds.
Later, as we approached top of a short hill hike we came upon concrete ruins of something from a bygone era. At this point Gordon
instructed us not to wander off the trail lots of mine shafts, we then walked down a steep trail at the bottom we saw an entrance to a mine, which some wanted to go in.
Back following the old railway alignment we eventually arrived back at the trestle bridge at our start point of Lake Jubilee which we circumnavigated
via the mineral spring. (an acquired taste?)
Back to our cars for lunch and a chat.
Thanks again to Gordon and Andrew for another mind-blowing walk.
