284. Grass Tree Lookout Sensory Walk

 U3A Hike No 284

Hike Report By Terry O'Brien

Nine of us took up Andrew's invite to stretch our legs after the recent festivities. Jan was our capable navigator on this 10 km walk that linked up Canadian Creek Walk, New Bunny Hop access to Woowookarung, and in Woowookarung,  the Grass Tree Trail, the Woowookarung Lookout and the Sensory and Dementia Walk.

We had slightly cool cloudy weather and it was ideal conditions to enjoy some exertion after what for some has been recent lazy indulgent times over the Christmas New Year period. We all appreciate how lucky Ballarat is to have this environment so close to the city but on this walk there were also reminders of the price we pay with this urban proximity - dumped rubbish. This time one of the discarded piles we
came across was a large pile of fatty meat offcuts. Fortunately, we met up with the ranger and
it will be attended to.

Over morning tea at the Lookout there was some discussion about possible strategies and the difficulties contending with this littering problem and like the authorities, we were not able to come up with a real solution.

An enjoyable and time appropriate walk – Thanks Jan and Andrew and fellow walkers.
