Raglan Falls - Beeripmo Track, Mt Cole State Forest Circuit - 10.6 Kms

 U3A Hike No.  231

Hike Report by Joan

Having had a week with a couple of hot days and a colder rainy day it was a pleasant surprise to have a perfect day to do the Beeripmo via the Bat Route planned for us.  With Mark H as our capable leader and Tail-end Gordon watching our backs, we knew we were in good hands.

With the sun nicely warming our backs we proceeded on our uphill climb on the Beeripmo track.  This part of the track was a bit rocky and uneven though we were rewarded with views of beautiful tree ferns as well as huge moss covered boulders.  On the way we could hear the sound of water rushing by as it made its way down to the creek below as well as had the chance to view Raglan Falls.  The beaut sights we saw along the way outweighed the effort on this uphill climb.

We reached the top of this part of the track and decided it was a good place to find a comfortable log to sit on to have a cuppa and a chat.  I was lucky to find a log that had a "fungi" named Ken who was happy to share the log.

With some added energy to help us on the rest of our hike, we continued along a gravel road.  Well...luckily we did have the cuppa and snack as they were a big help in getting us up, up, up the long winding road!  Along this road the trees were more sparse and seemed more damaged due to weather conditions and possible fire or logging. We eventually came to signage that pointed us to our return journey via the Beeripmo track.  The good news was that it was down, down, downhill!  This section of the walk again had elements that we noticed at the beginning of our walk which included beautiful, lush tree ferns and the sound of the creek running in the valley below.

We put our experienced hiking skills to use with having to go up, under and over a few tree obstacles.  Walking through this part was a very humbling experience in feeling so small amongst these amazing tall gums.  Though we didn't see any animals along the way, the birdlife, especially the kookaburras, acknowledged that we gave them something to laugh about!

We returned to the picnic area and enjoyed our lunch and more chatting about our adventures for the day.  Thanks to Mark and Gordon for their part in making this a super day!!  Thanks to the troops too!
